My New iPhone BLOWS- Shame on you Apple!

My thoughts on the new iPhone

Not to say that this is your fault, and I do agree with you that Apple needs to get it's act together, but maybe you have too many contacts in your phone, that the system takes a bit to read your extensive list of contacts, or maybe you just have a faulty iPhone.

i do have a lot of contacts, but have since limited which ones sync, and still VERY slow. Fact is that if i have 5,000 contacts, given computing power, and 16 gig of storage, it should be able to handle it. My blackberry and other windows devices i have had can handle that; it should not take that much memory to sort through the contacts, etc. very disappointing.

If you don't like how it functions, return it. Seems like a simple solution.

yea, sure that's an option, i suppose, or i could voice my concerns about a company that releases clearly poorly designed but great looking products. I don't think that is right. Taking it back is not that easy as you know, as i would now need to port back to my prior provider after paying a cancelation fee. Why are people so willing to defend such poor business. I would NEVER expect anyone who bought a product from me to do that.

Scott... I also have the new iPhone and I have quite a few apps loaded on it. I also came from Blackberry to the original iPhone, then went back to Blackberry for awhile before the new iPhone came out. I can tell you that my experience with iPhone has been better than yours and going back to Blackberry seemed like going back to the dark ages.

I work for a major IT services company and I'm pretty familiar with software development. It is pretty clear to me that Apple has a memory leak issue with the 2.0 version of their iPhone firmware. That is what I believe is causing the "slowdown" issues, as it tends to happen over a period of time... even with Apple's applications.

My suggestion for you when it starts to slow down is to reset it by holding the home key and power button at the same time until it resets. That will hopefully clear up the memory leak problem temporarily. It looks like Apple has seeded a 2nd beta of the 2.1 software to developers. So hopefully the fixes will be out soon.

Hang in there!

Scott... I also make extensive use of MobileMe. So far, the ability to keep everything in sync between my Macs and my iPhone has been a real productivity boon for me. But, as a side comment... e-mail for people interaction is kind of going the way of the dodo... in favor of more of the Web 2.0 and social networking venues. In that sense, Blackberry being basically an e-mail machine is kind of behind the times. Things move so quickly these days.

By no means am I defending this type of business. In my opinion, the v2.0 software is beta and wasn't ready to be released. On top of that, I'm sure you've heard of the issues with cracks starting to show up in the casing.

Like you said, Apple needs to be very careful with relying on the willingness to forgive among it's loyal followers. Really, the first gen iPhone and software was more polished than the 3G.

As far as returning it, you should have 30 days to return it for a full refund. And why force yourself to use a product that's going to frustrate you while hoping that a software update will fix the problems.

Hey Scott... I just found your Blog today... love it!

I totally agree with you Scott. The iPhone is definately a consumer only device. I only have about 500 contacts and still get similar slow downs as you and others have. I guess the only solution for me is to go over to Win Mobile or something else other than iPhone.

P.S. I have been an original iPhone user. I have waited for the Apps Store and 2.0 update. I waited a year and the phone is still buggy and slow to do actions.

P.S.S. I am not bashing the iPhone. I think it will work for many people, just not me because I want more immediate access to contact and customer data.
