SeV TV: See Scott Make a Fool of himself on Japenese TV

I thought I would include a very funny TV Show about me that appeared on the biggest Japanese TV Network called "The Worlds Most Successful People". I didn't choose the title. Other people featured ranged the gamut.

A 4 man Japanese film crew came out to Sun Valley to film this awhile ago. I have yet to have it translated. I am younger, fatter, with longer (very funny looking) hair. The funny part though is that they got an older actor who looked NOTHING like me to reenact portions of my life and childhood.

I hope you enjoy this, and please laugh at me, as I truly deserve it in this case. It is truly hilarious, even if you don't know me. If you do know me, you will laugh even harder. You will also get to see my lovely wife Laura, and my poodles (although the small one is now dead, and is referred to affectionately as "Dead Kelly")
See picture of Killer Kelly:

Sorry to complain about yesterday, Monday, but I will reiterate, Monday's generally suck. Today was much better. I managed to accomplish much of what I set out to do. I decided to do my video blog from outside today. Check it out here.

BTW, we pushed the site launch back a bit, but I think you will be very impressed with the end result. Here's a teaser of the new Home Page look and feel with the new video feature. Note that this is a non-functioning version other than video intro, so don't try to click on anything. If you want to see the intro again, press refresh. In sum, a mini-Scott will be available to show you how the site and the product works. Don't worry, you can shut me up easily. (Laura wishes she had it so easy).

My wife, Laura, is the camera person, and she personally, nor can I, believe that anyone is really interested in what I have to say, much less wants to watch me say it. However, based upon our Google Rank (5/10) in a very short time, apparently there are a lot of people watching and reading this blog. Thanks!

Have a great day, and don't forget to buy a mother's day present.

Scott

That Japanese documentary was VERY good and funny. A few questions. . .

1) Was the vest shown at the 6 minute mark the very first Scottevest? [I've only seen 3.0 and later].

2) Have you considered finding a retail partner in Asia to market/distribute Scottevest? [I saw your Scottevest in Skymall in the US some time ago.]

3) The clip with the actor wearing the fishing vest outside the business suit got me thinking. I know that you had a Scottevest blazer a few years ago, but did you have consider making a inconspicious "business vest" to wear under a business suit?

4) Lastly, do you have superpowers? [ha ha] Sorry, I couldn't resist when I heard all those sound effects on that Japanese tv clip.

Hope the Scottevest tour goes well! Can't wait to see it on the blog as I do not live on your route.

Andrew, thanks for your comments. You raise some very interesting and thought provoking questions. I believe all your questions merit serious discussion and consideration, but due to the late hour, I will answer briefly but honestly as I can. Your questions are reprinted below, with my answers below each.

1) Was the vest shown at the 6 minute mark the very first Scottevest? [I've only seen 3.0 and later].
______
That was the SeV 3.0 Spring/Fall, which later became known as the 237d (only 3 xxL and 20 small remain). It was and remains a favorite due to its light weight. Here's an independent review of it from www.pocketnow.com http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=748

_________

Yes, we have one there. Lightup Shopping Club, a nice catalog company but we have not pursued it in awhile. Thanks for reminding me to reach out. Do you have others we should consider?

3) The clip with the actor wearing the fishing vest outside the business suit got me thinking. I know that you had a Scottevest blazer a few years ago, but did you have consider making a inconspicious "business vest" to wear under a business suit?
_______

No, I haven't thought of that; do you think that would do well? Do people still wear suits?

4) Lastly, do you have superpowers? [ha ha] Sorry, I couldn't resist when I heard all those sound effects on that Japanese tv clip.

LOL. I actually read this post to Laura, who could not stop laughing either. I then watched the Japanese TV show for first time again for the first time in about a year, and could not stop laughing. It reminded me of the Godzilla movies when I was young. The answer btw is .....yes, I do... but work is my kryptonite and I am over-exposed lately. Thus, I can't wait to do this Bus Tour thing. I think it will be a blast.

The route is not yet set in stone, and if the first tour is successful we intend on doing others. I just thought of an idea that may be really good or really dumb. I create a separate post but let me know your initial impression:

What if we encourage people to submit videos on youtube or blip.tv doing something FUNNY and entertaining involving SeV, or its products, with some guidelines tbd. We could give SeV $ on some conversion for viewers and comments, and/or rating, which could be converted to SeV products.
I think we could tie this into the Bus Tour too. What do you think?

Watashi wa nihongo ga sukoshi wakarimasu... and what I understand of the clip adds up to it being hilarious.

I'm glad that today was a better one for you!

The bus tour concept is very cool and I'm looking forward to seeing how far you take it with the satellite tracking map and all the cool ideas you've been discussing.

For full disclosure, I work with Scott (recently) but have been a big fan of the brand for a long time.

The story of how Thom came to work for SCOTTEVEST is one of the strangest recruitment stories in SeV history. One day I will post the initial email exchange and post a video explaining the events the followed, with his take on it. Still to this day, it is bizarre to say the least.

Thom is a welcome addition to SeV and is primarily responsible for leading the team in Chicago and beyond for the new look of the website, including the videos and encouraging me to blog, against my better judgment. I guess he was right. But, if I ultimately make a fool of myself, as I expect to do, we can blame Thom... :) Just kidding. Thom was a SeV customer with a design idea... To be continued....

Keep up the great work.

Ok, i couldn't resist: here's the second funniest Scott of www.scottevest.com video, from a very small TV station here in Sun Valley Idaho. Reminds me of Wayne's World. Circa 2004

People still wear suits and sports coats. (I do at work.) Here's the dilemma. . .I have a bunch of gadgets, including a Razr and Blackberry (and occasionally have an emergency response pager), but I don't want to wear a "Batman utlity" belt with 2-3 items hanging from it. What I would like is an ultra compact, discrete vest that I could wear inside the suit or sportscoat that I could wear/move from suit to suit. Imagine the gun harnesses that undercover police wear underneath a sports jacket. . .but for gadgets instead of guns. I'm not talking a lot of pockets, but just enough for 2 cellular phones/Blackberry/ and/or PDA, a thumb stick. By keeping the pocket count low, you would not be cannibalizing on sales on your existing products. At home, I tried to wear a sleeveless Evolution underneath my sports jacket, but it was still too much bulk for this concept. Anyway my 2cents. I truly enjoy my Evolution and Tactical 4.0 when I'm in "casual" mode, but I also need something for the business mode to help me manage my electronic gears.

Wow. . .the pissed off poodle photo. . .wow. Of course, the dog was simplify anger that you did not offer a doggie version for holding her doggie treats, poopie bags, etc. I actually saw a doggie vest at REI for dogs and their owners who go to the woods with their dogs. Unfortuantely, it would be a nightmare to carry all those assorted sizes of Scotte-Doggie-Vests from chihuahua to poodle to great dane. LOL.

Scott Jordan, CEO of SCOTTEVEST/SeV said...

Yea, Kelly, the pissed off poodle, was a bit crazy. She once bit me on my nose, 21 stitches later, I still loved her. Actually we have thought of making a doggie specific version, but you can use the current version for dogs now, but I will consider it. As far as the suit version, have you seen the eholster? Not my thing, but it is a solution.

Thanks Scott. I just check on eholster and unfortunately it's not my thing too. It looked very BULKY. An imagine from a Seinfeld episode about an European "man purse" (tote) came to mind. Oh well, I'm just a picky consumer. At least I still have my Tactical 4.0 and Evolution for the "casual" mode days. Can't wait to see the new lineup on the new webpage.

Thanks again for the tip.

P.S. I was always curious. . .does the government buy the exact same Scottevest gear as the rest of the public, or do they request slight modifications around logo or color? (You don't have to go into specifics as I'm sure its probably some secret stuff).

Keep the blog going Scott!

Scott Jordan, CEO of SCOTTEVEST/SeV said...

I agree about the eholster. Just not my thing. I will think about the suit version of the vest only. I think it would look very odd when you take your jacket off thought and would need to match your suit in some fashion, right?

The government versions of the SeV are identical to the consumer ones but with sometimes special patches to quickly identify themselves. They like the "normal" SeVs so they can blend in with regular folk.
