Consistent with your "crappy Monday" theory. . .you may be having a "crappy Friday" because Monday was a holiday. Have to get the "crappy day of the week" quota in somehow.

Yeah the load times were a little longer than usual. I tried the Evolution page/video, travel vest, etc. After going there first, I was a little surprised to see. . .or rather hear. . .that there was no narration or music in the women's products. Have you considered either narrating those videos or get a woman to narrate those too?

Cheer up. . .there's aways the weekend. Go play with your poodles.

you got me to LOL; thanks! i needed that; all videos are going to be better, and may have music and VO; i was planning on recording the VO cuz no script needed for most part, but do you think a women's voice is better

btw, here is faster loading version of HP http://www.scottevest.com/new_layout_2/index_test.shtml

Hi Andrew - I'm a contributor to that crappy Friday!

We think we sorted out the load time issues. Some off-site features (like ShareThis) were gumming up the works along with some previous design choices. The choices were not bad per se, but they had a domino effect of implications that incrementally added up to something too heavy/slow. How do you get to a 50 lb. bag of rice?... one grain at a time.

The best thing is that Scott had a really elegant idea during this situation that should be really cool.

About the videos... yeah... those are just placeholders while we're sorting out version 2.0. I don't think Scott knows, but I interviewed a couple female VO artists for the task. This is going to turn out to be the "right" solution all around.

Nice way to learn about stuff, through my blog :)

I personally would prefer someone else's voice on these, and think it would be a nice touch.

Just lots of copy to write, but suppose you could simply have her read the current descriptions as planned with minor textual edits too. Hey thom, it may be fun to communicate some things like this in this fashion, to allow people to see the thought process by topic, and contribute.

On that score, can we "leave room" for continuous VO updates to videos to add reviews, etc. So, e.g., the last 15 seconds can be filler sound now, with music, but as we get reviews from serious blogs and newspapers, we could read like we do in travel vest demo at end. And update them easily; need consistant voice for this part, and maybe it's me sort of reporting at the end,.... it will also give people opportunity to come back and watch again, etc.

Andrew, feel free to chime in if you want. This could become the real SeV Advisory Board.

Scott

I just sent you an e-mail about the 'modularity' that we're discussing for the vids... I think that we can plan for a VO chunk to be determined at the end. It may even be that we just Flash that part out so we can update it without going into the editing booth (metaphorically). I'm expecting some good press coming up, so it would be nice to be flexible.

I'll get some VO tests this weekend to see how the microphone works. One of the VO artists I've worked with before is really good, but Canadian... always got to watch those accents!

I like the idea of behind-the-behind-the-scenes comments, but we need to be sure that we don't so dominate the conversation that it becomes public e-mail and no one else wants to chime in.

Why was the Tactical 4.0 phased out?

Is the Quantum the same as the Tactical 4.0?

Is the Tactical family of jackets too warm for Central California?

I'm thinking of getting something like the 237...which was also phased out.

Are you coming out with a ventilated jacket? Pit Zips?

all good questions: see

Why was the Tactical 4.0 phased out?

A: it has been in the line for several years, and we have a new version coming.

Is the Quantum the same as the Tactical 4.0?

A: not same, better. see http://picasaweb.google.com/scottevest/SeVWinterSportsHeadless

A: It is a shell intended for cooler weather. If you could wear Northface Shells, then I think it would be fine. How could does it get there?

Try the Evolution or Essential.

Yep! The new quantum jacket.

It looks like whatever bugs were gnawing at your new web site have been squashed. I just did three loads of the site and they took 2 to 3 seconds.

I'm curious as to how you hold your video camera. Is it mounted on something or do you just have exceptionally steady hands? ;)

Thanks! We removed the sharethis feature which was slowing it down and also used text links on the left nav and that helped immensely. It is sunny today so i am going to try camping, finally!

I either hold the camera out with my right hand, and that's it, or use an uni-pod. In this case, i just held it out. Not hard.

Is that a drop hood or a detachable hood?

Where does the hood stow?

>A: It is a shell intended for >cooler weather. If you could wear >Northface Shells, then I think it >would be fine. How could does it >get there?
Ah. Too warm.

I'm mainly using my favorite North Face Jacket, I don't recall the name...but it has a mesh-lined vented back, with hood stowable in collar. I like simpler designs. The 2 things I don't like about this jacket are the lack of Pit Zips and the Weight Management System (WMS).

I have the Algerian Field Jacket, same complaints--ventilation and WMS. A lot of pockets though.

I also have the Under Armour Tactical Jacket, but it's too warm, and the sleeves are just too long for the jacket to be practical. No back ventilation, but side zips are good...material is not breathable though, and there is a design flaw--the hook side of the Velcro in the inner vest catches on the material of the inner lining of the jacket...

Do you have versions without the zip-off sleeves? I don't wear vests.
