25 Days in Mayan Country

It’s Thursday afternoon and I’m preparing for my 25-day trip through the ancient ruins of Guatemala and El Salvador, which will be my 40th and 41st countries. I’m kicking this trip off in Guatemala City and I hear it’s a bustling capital city full of parks, markets, and museums. Though I have traveled for longer, this next month will bring a few challenges such as the heat and the grueling transportation schedule to cover as much ground as possible. Once I’m delivered safely to the El Salvadorian border I’ll only be half-way done with this Central American adventure.

Here is the route of my trip below. I think these routes are a good way for anyone to experience these countries. They do, however, require ground transport.

Guatemala

Guatemala City, Panajachel, Chichicastenango, Huehuetenango, Quetzaltenango, Pacific Coast, Volcan de Pacaya, Monterrico, Antigua, Quirigua, Livingston, Rio Dulce and Peten (Tikal)

El Salvador

San Andres, Santa Ana, Tazumel, Casa Blanca, Nahuizalco, Salcoatitan, Juayua, Apaneca, Ataco, Tacuba, Puerto de Liberta, San Salvador, Chihuatan, La Palma, San Ignacio, Citala, El Pital, San Sebastian, Iloobasco, Suchitoto, Suchitan, Perquin, San Fernando, arambala, Cacaopera, Bahia de Jiquilisco, Alegria, Berlin, and Laguna de Alegria.

Both tourism boards are providing me with a guide and transportation. I can’t wait to shoot hours of video with my GoPro strapped onto the car, snap incredible images and blog about my time spent in Central America. Since it is the year that the Mayans predicted the world would end, there has been an increase in tourism to these areas. Their amazing civilization has undoubtedly left its mark on the world and I can’t wait to bring it to you in my city guides and videos.
