Why I am switching from Windows to Mac (Apple) and why you should consider doing so too.

What I did this weekend-switched to Apple,

You drank the Kool-Aid

On behalf of the 92% of all windows computer users (not counting worldwide which brings it up even higher) sorry to see ya go.

I work in mainstream business, so I have to use windows, would I use a Mac Pro if you gave me one? You betcha, but as a geek I also love to build my computers from scratch. You think Jobs would ever let that happen? His attitude toward middle class normal folk is another reason to dislike apple. He's a jerk and he doesn't care that I know that.

I understand that 99% of the podcasts that I watch and listen too are fanboys and I'm OK with that, but it's amazing that as bad as windows is (or thought to be) the world around us uses it day in and day out and it's working.

I'm sure I'll be shot down by the fanboys if they see this post, but it's ok, it's like that in the blog world.

I'm a windows admin by day and mac user by night myself, and I totally feel your pain about Outlook. Entourage is NOT as good, so I just ended up sticking with Apple's Mail.app for my home stuff.

I primarily switched to Mac for Garageband as I fell in love with that program the moment I first used it. As a musician it's made my life MUCH easier as I spend more time recording an less time tweaking software.

After that came the whole Mac ecosystem though, iPod and AppleTV now. Great stuff overall, though just because its Mac doesn't mean it doesn't have problems. I have my share of Application crashes and such, but overall it's a much better platform for my home use.

YMMV

Welcome to the club. I switched to a MacBook a little over a year ago. Prior to that I had been mostly a Linux user with some Windows thrown in. I write three blogs and contribute to a third and I find the MacBook entirely satisfactory for that.

I noticed the remark above about Steve Jobs being a jerk and I agree but so what? I don't have to live with him. It's Apple's gear that I like, not Steve. And when it comes to jerks, Jobs doesn't hold a candle to Ballmer so if Steve being a jerk is enough to dissuade someone from using an Apple computer I would think they would want to walk a wide circle around Windows too because of Ballmer. My question is always,"Wlll it do what I want to do?" and not "Do I like the CEO."

I tick the "All of the above" box.

Windows on my desktop PC, running Linux VMs when required; a MacBook which I use when sitting on the sofa; and various Linux notebooks strewn all over the place in various states of entropy.

Each has its place, and each has its annoyances. For general use, I have to say that the Mac wins.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks ... probably because they are smart enough to know better.

2 desktop PCs, 2 laptops, 1 tablet and 1 Sony UX all are running Windows and all serve me well.

Of course I have a dozen or so Pocket PCs too (but I do have a couple of Nokia's and two Motorolas running the UIQ interface on top of Symbian)

Good luck with it Scott ... you'll be back! lol
