Interview with Sam Silverstein President, The National Speakers Association

Hi Scott, I'm reaching out to you today for a possible interview. I speak and write about leadership and organizational growth. I've watched and admired your company and it's products from a far and was wondering if you would be available for a 15-20 phone interview. Each week I write articles based on my interviews and also use the insights for future books. It's a fun and low key situation. I'm always looking to make my interviewee look great. Howard Putnum, former CEO of Southwest Airlines, George Tamke, Chairman of the Board of Hertz and Ronnie Muhl, an explorer who climbed Mt. Everest are just a few of the people I've chatted with. I'd love to set up a time to have a brief conversation on leadership and organizational growth. Be well, Sam me Sam Silverstein, CSP 2008-2009 President, The National Speakers Association Accountability is not a consequence. Accountability is your competitive advantage!?

The Two-Year-Anniversary HARO Day!

So back in early 2008, we launched a HARO day – Essentially, we asked everyone to make all of their status updates the following: “Get sourced, get quoted, get famous: http://helpareporter.com”

And people did it in droves!

Screen shot 2010-04-12 at 1.51.49 PM
clip_image002
HAROrocks

It’s time to do it again!

But this time, we have prizes!

The reason HARO has been as successful as it has is due to two things: 1) It’s helpful to you. 2) Because it’s helpful, you like telling people about it. So we’re gonna ask you to do it again.

On Thursday, April 12th, 2010, we’re going to ask you to donate your status to HARO. Simply make your social media status (on whatever or how many platforms you use,) to the following:

Get sourced, get quoted, get famous: http://helpareporter.com

That’s it. For one day, that’s your status update.

Then, send an email to statusupdate@helpareporter.com with a screenshot of your update. We’ll take the 100th, 200th, etc., all the way to 10,000th email we get, and send a t-shirt or some other fun HARO swag to you.

We’ll also choose two updates at random, and one will get a brand new ScotteVest, and another will get a gorgeous backpack from Ogio{!

Finally, we’ll take all the screenshots we got, and make a massive compilation of them so you can try and find yours.

It’s our way of saying thank you for using HARO – and helping us grow.

So that’s this Thursday. As always, thank you for using HARO – We love you! :)

Customer Service is VERY important to us

ScotteVest Customer Service review

This is not so much a review of ScotteVest Cotton hood but ScotteVest customer service.

Why? Well in my business customer service is king – I hate bad customer service – period. No point at all in making any product if it is let down by the companies customer service.

Some call me a geek, but I hate that word – to me it means someone who buys ANY gadget – regardless of what it does, or if it makes your life easier. Or in many cases infuriates the user when trying to use a so called ‘world beating’ piece of technology.

Me? I buy gadgets that make my life easier and maybe achieve something that had not been possible without such a gadget.

What has this got to do with ScotteVest? Well, they claim to make carrying your technology easier. But, can they give you a feeling of achieving something?

Before purchasing my Hoodie, I read several reviews (as always), but didn’t know anyone who owned one. So, I took a gamble and ordered (from the UK). Two weeks later I received my Cotton Hoodie.

The garment had a few manufacturing faults – one of which was the cellphone pocket was not stitched along one side and allowed my phone to drop out. Other minor problems were the poor finish of the seams around the hood.

However, a couple of emails and the test of ScotteVests customer service rolled into action. I emailed pictures and videos and got a response straight away.

Apologies accepted from both Julie (very helpful) and a very nice video message from Scott (CEO) saying the videos had been forwarded to the factory to show them the faults. Scott also assured me that the problems highlighted in the video/pictures had never occurred before.

A replacement was ordered and received very quickly – with all taxes, duty and postage paid for by ScotteVest.

The replacement Hoodie? All is fine and ScotteVest will have my custom in the future.

All in all, a not so nice initial experience turned me into a very satisfied customer all because of great customer service.

So has ScotteVest achieved my two aims – carrying your technology easier, two, can they give you a feeling of achieving something?

Well they certainly make carrying all your tech stuff easier and I can get away without carrying any kind of bag on day trips and even on longer trips I can save money on baggage charges. So yes to both!

Review: Scottevest Pack Windbreaker « Just Another iPhone Blog

Review: Scottevest Pack Windbreaker

Do you carry multiple gadgets but never have enough pockets for everything?  Scottevesthas you covered with the Pack Windbreakerjacket.  This jacket is made for gadgets and is possibly one of the best jackets that I have ever owned.  Really, what is not to love about it? The Pack Windbreaker has a total of 17 pockets, is lightweight and waterproof.

Scottevest put a great deal of thought into designing this jacket. One great feature is itsWeight Management System. My biggest complaint with other jackets is when you carry heavy gadgets, one side always feels heavier. The Pack Windbreaker does a great job solving this problem and I feel comfortable wearing it.

There’s a pocket for everything.

There are two main DeepPockets on the outside of the jacket. The hood is stored inside the collar of the jacket for rainy days.  The DeepPockets are designed to keep everything from falling out, even if you forget to zip it.  One of the outer pockets has an elastic holder for your water bottle and a detachable clip for your keychain.  There are also smaller pockets inside the DeepPockets for loose coins or a data storage card.  Inside the windbreaker, you will notice transparent pockets on each side.  The Clear touch pockets are made specifically for your iPhone or iPod Touch.  It’s a nice feature, because when someone calls you can easily check to see who it is without having to remove your phone from your jacket.  You can even answer the call while it’s still inside your pocket.  There is a clip attached to one of the Clear touch pockets that holds a microfiber cloth.  I have used it to clean my sunglasses and iPhone.

Scottevest has devised a great way to manage the annoying earphone cord.  The Personal Area Network (PAN) is their patented system of hidden clips that connect earphones to devices without them having to leave your pocket.  The Velcro tabs provide for an easy and convenient way to remove the earphones from your jacket and there are even little ear bud pockets to prevent them from hanging everywhere when not in use.  There are two lower pockets that are made of a mesh lining to provide air flow to your devices.  You can easily fit a small netbook or an iPad inside the pocket. That’s right, I can easily fit the iPad inside the pocket (without a case).

There are additional pockets for other items such as a camera, sunglasses, pen, or even a stylus (whatever that is). The Pack Windbreaker even folds easily into its own back pocket for easy storage or transport.

Why lug a carry-on bag onto a airplane when you can just use the Scottevest Pack Windbreaker to carry all of your essential items?  The jacket is machine washable and is available in five colors: Cobalt, Graphite, Olive, Red, and Yellow.  Only sizes medium and up can hold the iPad.

My Word

When my wife bought me the Scottevest Windbreaker for Christmas, I couldn’t wait until the spring to wear it.  I have to say it’s a great jacket to have not only because it looks great, but because I can take everything with me.  I always felt when going out I would have to sacrifice a gadget just because I couldn’t carry it.  Now I can easily fit anything I need without sacrificing anything.  In addition to having everything with you, I feel comfortable knowing my gadgets are securely protected inside the specifically designed pockets.  Overall, the Pack Windbreaker is very well designed and you feel like the people over at Scottevest really took the customer into account when making it.  I probably won’t be carrying my iPad in it wherever I go but if I needed to store it in a pocket, it’s nice to have that option.  I have now become the person who holds everything for everyone else.  You can check out (and laugh at) the brief video I made showing off a few items.

What I fit inside my Pack Windbreaker:

iPhone, iPod w/ earphones, iPad; waterbottle, keys, wallet, sunglasses, a magazine, 2 Pens, a granola bar, business cards, $.62 in change, bluetooth head set, a pack of Wrigley’s gum, camera, extra SD card, and my Mophie Juice Pack.  I could have fit more but I ran out of gadgets.

The Scottevest Pack Windbreaker is currently $75 and you can check it out on their website.

img_ipad_framesYou’ve got the hottest new gadget in town. Now where do you put it?

Inside an iPAD-compatible vest, of course.

Ketchum, Idaho-based Scottevest, which debuted a line of clothing in 2005 that was compatible with the smaller iPod, has introduced “outerwear” with a large interior pocket that holds Apple’s latest device securely without damaging the screen.

“If you’re going to carry it around all the time, you don’t want to carry it in a purse,” said Chief Executive and Founder Scott Jordan. “I don’t think men want to carry around a purse.”

The jackets and vests, which cost about $100 and are based on the humble yet practical fly-fisherman’s vest, can also tote Kindles, magazines, or legal pads.

Making apparel compatible with technology is nothing new. In 2005, companies like Scottevest and Kenpo in New York introduced jackets that hid unsightly iPod wires and allowed users to access the device’s controls.

Despite what Jordan called a $1 billion market for iPod accessories, he saw greater opportunity in travel goods, where travelers need extra pockets for books, cameras and other items.

Scottevest, which sells mostly online but also supplies the military and some corporations likeGoogle and Microsoft (executives like to put their logos on the vests, Jordan says) is coming out with a “carry-on coat” that zips up into a carry-on bag this fall, and a full women’s line in the spring.

The company, whose sales are fast approaching $10 million, also has found an unlikely fan base apart from travelers and gadget hounds.

“Poker players love our stuff. They have chips and iPods and gum and Visine,” said Jordan. “It’s bizarre. They gravitated to us without us even knowing about it.”
